wensday painting

this weather has been great... i went downtown yesterday to get some painting in, it was cloudy and overcast like it was going to rain. i sat up on the west end to paint the rowing club and the mill but it was one of those days , i could not get the colors to mix like i wanted and some homeless guy kept messing with me . all in all not a very good for this painter. at about 11;00 am

decided i could do no more damage so i gave up...plus it had started raining a little. i returned to my studio and guess what...the weather started clearing up...just not my day. till next time

white post road

bob carr and myself went down close to bath n c out on white post road to do some plein air painting. the weather could not have been better. this is the time of year that you have to go when you can.

everything is changing color.

more earth colors less greens. i started back with a limited palette, just red, blue , yellow with white. i started painting with this palette but over time i added more colors, but now i will stick to the limited palette.

hope everyone is having a great thanksgiving with family and friends. and the weather could not have been any better.

bob and i went to pinetown yesterday to do some painting, but first things first, we made a stop at acre station meat farm a ham bisquit and coffee. then on to pinetown.

pinetown has some old buildings ,a railroad,like most little towns in eastern n c . it was a perfect day.

the boat is from our last trip to mccotters.

mccotters, again

another friday at mccotters marina. a little on the cold side, about 45 degrees with a good breeze, but that does not stop dedicated plein air painters, as you can see ny friend bob carr did do some work from his truck.

i am hoping to go with bob up to pinetown about the middle of the week. i really enjoy going out to some of these small town and painting......till next time..

had a good time with painting buddies today.

a little bit on the cool side,but not bad. was good to see nancy and linda out with us crazy men.

we got to see the boatyard move a very large cruiser back into the water.

this friday for our friday plein air paintout we are going to mcotters marina on river road

here in washington n c to paint some boats, not in the water but on shore in cradles.

this should be a different paintout....different subject and a little cooler...about 50 degrees.

brown library

this past friday us plein air painters including dodi, bob carr, pete and myself all went to brown library to paint.

the weather was great..had a good time. bob carr and myself are planning an outing down to dinahs landing this coming tuesday morning, if anyone wants to tag alone just give me a call.

night painting

every now and then i have to try something different, this time a night scene. we all get stuck in a rut sometimes and the way out is to try something totally different.... it might not work.

hell, half the paintings i do , don't work. a painter i know who is very good at this and makes a lot of money will tell you that only about 30% of what he paints is worthy of sale

the main thing is to get out there and paint, it might not work today, but tomorrow will be the day for the masterpiece....later

brown library

had a great time today painting with bob carr and pete at the brown library. one of the ladies on the block came out and invited us to take a break and sit on her porch, but we declined because, as you know we were so dedicated to the painting we were working on.

all in all it was a great day.

this painting was taken from a photo that was in a maz. that my wife had and i though it looked like a warm summer morning in the south.

hurricane painting

this past weekend i went over to mcotters marina to see the damage from hurricane"irene". wow they still have a mess, i took some photos with the intent of doing two or three paintings.

after doing one of the boat damage i decided i did not want to another.

the other painting is the only one this week that i was satisfied with.

there are a couple of good art shows in town this week, one at the n c esturium with john hanley

and the other at the civic center.

hope all the guys and girls will come out this week for our friday plein air outing.

organic farm

bob carr and myself went on our friday outing to plein air paint at the organic farm on hwy 264 and had a great time. the weather was a little cool, but a great change from our hot days we have had.

i painted a couple of barns.

don't know what happened to all of our painting buddies, maybe next week.

this is the painting that won third place in ayden "collard art show".

this friday we began our weekly plein air outings on friday mornings, it has been a long hot summer and i can't wait to start back. if you would like to paint with us just drop me an e-mail and i will put you on our e-mail listing...all are welcome.

have just returned from 'pigon forge, tenn. my brothers and my self went to a car show there, the largest show i have ever been to. had a great time.

just got a call from "sandy" at the ayden collard art show...i won third place... thats great.

got to cut this short and get to the studio to see what i have missed in the last four days.

have finally got my studio cleaned up again from the storm.

this plein air painting was painted i march of this year it is on the north side of hwy264 about three miles before greenville.

had a good time today talking with pete and brenda from greenville, they were in town to do some serious painting and i distracted them.

john hanley from new bern came by yesterday and we had a nice visit, he was ridding his HOGG...

i put three paintings in the "collard festival" hope everyone that wanted to enter did, what with the storm and all.

painted both of these paintings from the same location. i was set up behind the "brown library" here in town. the one on the right is a "bed and breakfast" THE MOSS HOUSE and the one on the left is a private home.

wow, what a storm, irene please leave, my studio is flooded with 12 inches of water. i got everything up but, you know!! you always miss something and i did...it is now 7;15 pm saturday

and is still raining....tomorrow will be better, first clean up at home and then clean up the studio.

the OOPS group is having a plein air painting gathering tomorrow, sunday at pollocksville but will have to pass this time...to much to do..

have not posted in about 10days, i have been doing a lot of studio work due to the heat, but look up guys sept. is coming and we can get back out there.

KEEP PAINTING.....

wow, what a hot week. as i do every year i put nine paintings in the beaufort co. cancer center for a little show just for them, not a sales event, i just feel good doing it.

hi guys, boy, this has nothing to do with plein air painting,but the website of superbeetle.com has asked me to do an article about my beetle for their website, and i was honored. i will work on it next week. these are the photos i will include in the article.

bob carr came by the studio today and we chatted for a good hour, it is always good to see friends stop, by.

i put 9 paintings in the cancer center today, i have done it for the past three years. no one gets to see them but the folks with cancer and the employees but i just feel good doing it. at my age being a painter is as much about people as it is about profit. don't get me wrong i love to sell my work, but there are some things that bring on a very good feeling.

well, i though last week would be the hottest week for a while..but no, another week of very hot temps.

i am getting ready to e-mail the painting group suggest that we not paint this friday, i would feel very bad if anyone fell out from the heat,

the top marsh painting was done about two years ago down in hyde co.

the home is the "blossem house" here in town, it used to be a b&b, now a private res. we have the OK to paint there if we ever get a break.

every time i see an old barn i always think there is an old car in there

and sometimes there is. what kind of car is it?? later.

i hope this is the last week of this terrible hot weather and we can get back out there and do some plein air painting.

this lady was crab fishing at havens garden with a string and a chicken neck. the painting of the three homes was done about three years ago they are in front of the n c esturium in washington n c ...bed time.

decided not to go out painting tomorrow, friday, i think it is going to be just to hot. this is the worst heat wave i can rember.

i really miss not being able to paint with you guys, i paint in the studio every day , but it is not the same. as you can tell from the photo, taken by terri, i really like what i do.

this past friday we went out to connie dunning's home on market st ext.

teri and myself were the only ones there, and that was due in part to my e-mail mailing not working...but it is repaired now..i hope.

it was a very good day, cool breeze nice shade, what could be better.
